AAP Leader Atishi Assumes Delhi CM Role, Set to Lead Until Elections
Desk Report, September 23, 2024: In a significant political development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi officially assumed the role of Chief Minister of Delhi today, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The announcement was made through her post on the micro-blogging platform ‘X’, where Atishi drew a parallel to Bharat’s rule with Lord Ram’s ‘khadaun’ (sandals) during his 14-year exile.
This statement reflects her deep sense of duty and commitment to her new role. Atishi is set to govern the capital for the next four months, leading until the upcoming elections.
The newly appointed Chief Minister will oversee 13 key portfolios, including critical departments such as education, finance, power, and public works. This transition indicates her readiness to handle the vital responsibilities required to manage Delhi’s administration effectively.
In addition to Atishi’s appointment, Saurabh Bharadwaj has also assumed charge, handling eight portfolios in the government. His involvement ensures continuity and stability within the administration during this transitional period.
Moreover, newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat has taken on significant roles in labour, SC/ST affairs, and employment, highlighting AAP’s intent to prioritize inclusive governance. Meanwhile, Gopal Rai continues his duties in the departments of development, environment, and general administration, maintaining his role from the previous government.
