Heatwave Forces Temporary Shutdown of All Kamrup Metro Schools from September 24-27
Guwahati, September 23, 2024: Effective immediately, all government, provincialized, and private schools in Kamrup Metro will be closed from September 24th to 27th, 2024. This decision follows reports of students experiencing health issues, including fainting due to the ongoing heatwave. The prolonged exposure to high temperatures has raised concerns about dehydration and heat-related illnesses among students.
The District Elementary Education Officer issued the order with approval from the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro. The closure aims to safeguard students’ health and prevent further cases of heat-induced illness. Rising temperatures have created an unsafe environment, prompting swift action to protect young learners.
All school authorities are advised to adhere to this directive. The District Mission Coordinator of SSA, Kamrup Metro, emphasized the urgent need to prioritize students’ well-being during this period of extreme weather.
Parents and guardians should note the temporary closure and take necessary precautions to keep children hydrated and cool during this time. The order serves as a reminder of the importance of student safety amid harsh weather conditions.
The schools are expected to resume regular operations after September 27th, provided the temperature stabilizes.
