Prime Minister Narendra Modi Embarks on Pivotal Two-Day Visit to Assam
Desk Report, March 08, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day visit to Assam, embarking on a schedule packed with inaugurations and foundation stone layings for projects totaling Rs 18,000 crore. His arrival at Tezpur airport was met with a warm reception from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Under the banner of #ModiParivarAssam, Chief Minister Sarma extended a hearty welcome to the Prime Minister, emphasizing the significance of his presence in the cultural and historical landscape of Assam, home to revered landmarks such as Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.
From Tezpur, Modi proceeded to Panbari in Kaziranga via helicopter, concluding the final stretch of his journey with a 15-kilometer road trip to the Police Guest House near Central Kohora Range in Kaziranga National Park, where he will reside for the night. A planned jungle safari, facilitated by the Park authorities, awaits him early Saturday morning, offering the Prime Minister an intimate encounter with the rich biodiversity of the region through both jeep and elephant excursions.
Following his wildlife expedition, Modi will depart for Arunachal Pradesh to participate in two scheduled events before returning to Jorhat. There, he will inaugurate the 125-foot high ‘Statue of Valour’ commemorating the legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, symbolizing bravery and valor intrinsic to Assam’s heritage.
Subsequently, at Meleng Meteli Pothar, the Prime Minister will preside over the inauguration and foundation laying ceremony of various central and state projects, collectively amounting to approximately Rs 18,000 crore. An anticipated public address by Modi will cap off the eventful day, providing an opportunity for him to connect with the citizens and elucidate the government’s developmental vision for the region.
Concluding his engagements in Assam, Modi will proceed to West Bengal, marking the culmination of a significant visit aimed at bolstering infrastructure and socio-economic progress in the northeastern states. This visit follows his earlier trip on February 4, during which he unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,600 crore, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transformative development initiatives in the region.
