Prime Minister Narendra Modi Initiates Massive Rail Infrastructure Overhaul: Unveils Redevelopment Plans for 11 Stations in Assam and 553 Stations Nationwide
Desk Report, February 26, 2024: In a groundbreaking move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greenlights the construction of six roads over bridges/underpasses in Assam. Simultaneously, he lays the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 11 railway stations across the state.
In a recent update on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shares, “Today marks a historic day for our Railways! At 12:30 PM, we dedicate 2000 railway infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 41,000 crores to the nation.”
To elevate the travel experience, 553 stations will undergo redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, as PM Modi emphasizes the commitment to ‘Ease of Living.’ The redevelopment plan includes Haibargaon, Udalguri, Silapathar, Biswanath, and seven other railway stations.

These stations reflect regional art and culture in their walls and interiors, promoting a sustainable future with modern facilities and amenities for divyangans. These initiatives aim to reduce congestion, improve safety and accessibility, and enhance the efficiency of rail travel.
On February 26, PM Modi will initiate the overhaul of the Gurugram rail line station, estimated at Rs 295 crores. Additionally, he will inaugurate the redeveloped Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, a Rs 385 crore project. The Gomti Nagar station is designed to accommodate increased passenger footfall, featuring segregated arrival and departure facilities, central air-conditioning, air concourse, congestion-free circulation, food courts, and ample parking space in upper and lower basements.
