Mizoram Police Seize ₹4.45 Crore Worth Methamphetamine in Vairengte Operation

Desk Report: A joint team on September 27, 2024, from Vairengte Police and CID (SB) Vairengte conducted a drug and liquor check at the Vairengte Police check gate, Kawngthar Veng, Mizoram. They intercepted two auto-rickshaws suspected of transporting illegal substances. During the operation, authorities recovered a significant quantity of suspected methamphetamine tablets.

The first auto-rickshaw, with registration number MZ 05 A 8955, was searched, and police found 17 kg (170,000 tablets) of suspected methamphetamine. The driver, identified as Lalhmangaihzuala from Vairengte, Mizoram, was apprehended on the spot. In a subsequent search, officers checked the second auto-rickshaw bearing registration number MZ-05B/1904. They discovered an additional 18 kg (180,000 tablets) of suspected methamphetamine in possession of the driver, Lalfakzuala, a resident of Vengthar, Vairengte, Mizoram.

The combined seizure amounted to a total of 35 kg of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth ₹4.45 crore in the illegal drug market. This substantial drug haul led to the registration of Vairengte PS Case No. 44/2024 dated 27.09.2024 under Sections 22(c)/25/29 of the ND&PS Act. Further investigations are underway to uncover the backward and forward linkages associated with this illegal drug trafficking network.

The Mizoram Police, in collaboration with the CID, have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking activities in the region. Their efforts reflect the commitment to curb illegal drug trade, ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens in the state.
