Assam Government Suspends Mobile Internet for ADRE Exam Integrity on September 29, 2024
Guwahati: In light of the Assam Direct Recruitment Examinations (ADRE) taking place across the state on September 29, 2024, the Government of Assam has decided to prohibit mobile internet services to ensure the integrity of the examination process. According to an official notification issued by the Assam Home and Political Department, the suspension will be effective statewide from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
The recruitment exams for Class-III posts are set to be held in two shifts: the first for Bachelor’s Degree-level posts from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and the second shift for HSLC (Driver) posts from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Over 7,34,080 candidates are expected to take part in these exams at 822 examination centers spread across 27 districts.
To maintain the sanctity of the examination, the internet suspension aims to prevent the use of unfair means through mobile applications and social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), which have been exploited in the past to disrupt recruitment processes.
While mobile internet services will remain disabled, the notification clarifies that voice calls and broadband services via fixed lines will remain functional during this period. Violations of this order will be penalized under the Indian Telegraph Act of 1885 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023.
This preventive measure reflects the government’s commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and malpractice-free examination process.
