Indian Navy Dispatches Relief Ships to Myanmar Following Typhoon Yagi Destruction
Desk Report, September 16, 2024: The Indian Navy is quickly preparing for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in Myanmar. The country has been hit hard by flash floods caused by Typhoon Yagi, which originated in the South China Sea.
Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with the Eastern Fleet, is leading the efforts. Supporting units like the Base Victualling Yard (BVY), Material Organisation, and INHS Kalyani helped load HADR supplies onto naval ships in Visakhapatnam overnight. These supplies include essential items such as drinking water, food rations, medicines, and other necessary relief gear.
The Navy’s rapid response, despite short notice, shows its strong ability to provide immediate help in regional crises. Ships are now on their way to Yangon to aid the affected regions in Myanmar.
The quick mobilization highlights the Navy’s commitment to humanitarian missions and its readiness to assist neighboring countries during times of disaster.
