Guwahati Traffic Restrictions for Chhath Puja: Police Announce Extensive Controls on November 7-8
Guwahati: In preparation for the Chhath Puja celebrations on November 7 and 8, 2024, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati, has issued detailed traffic restrictions across the city. The regulations will take effect from 1:00 PM on November 7 and continue until the departure of devotees from various Puja locations on November 8, 2024.
Key Restrictions:
1. Commercial and Heavy Vehicles Prohibited:
Starting from 12:00 PM on November 7 until the end of rituals on November 8, no commercial goods vehicles or other heavy vehicles will be allowed in Guwahati city limits.
2. Limited Access for Puja-Related Vehicles:
Only vehicles carrying Puja materials and devotees are permitted to use the MG Road stretch from Machkhowa Point to the Chief Justice Bungalow Point.
3. Restrictions on Slow-Moving Vehicles:
Vehicles such as hand carts, rickshaws, and pony carts will not be permitted on MG Road from Machkhowa Point to the Chief Justice Bungalow Point, effective from 11:00 AM on November 7 until the departure of devotees from Sukreswar Ghat on November 8.
4. City Bus Diversion:
All city buses coming from Khanapara towards Bharalumukh will be diverted to G.S. Road–A.T. Road and will not be allowed to proceed towards Panbazar through the Panbazar ROB.
5. Ban on Heavy Vehicles in the City:
Heavy vehicles, including inter-district and red rural service buses, will be redirected via NH-27 at Jalukbari. Only city buses and Puja-related vehicles will be allowed within city limits.
6. Traffic on HB Road:
On the stretch of HB Road from Sani Mandir to Panbazar Police Point, traffic shall be allowed to ply on both sides.
7. No Vehicle Parking at Lachit Ghat:
Vehicles are prohibited from parking at Lachit Ghat during the festival.
Traffic Diversions:
1. Vehicles from Bharalumukh Side:
All vehicles, including city buses coming from Bharalumukh towards Panbazar or Chandmari, will be diverted at Machkhowa to either HB Road (via TRP Road) or A.T. Road. Therefor the vehicle going twards Chandmari or Latasil via HB Road shall take left turn at NB Hall (Sessions Court) point towards HB Road and proceed to Bharalumukh side.
2. Vehicles from Chandmari Side:
Vehicles from Chandmari heading towards Panbazar/Bharalumukh will be diverted at NB Hall (Sessions Court) Point to proceed towards Bharalumukh.
3. Light Vehicles from Uzanbazar/Latasil:
Light vehicles from these areas towards Bharalumukh will be diverted at Planetarium Point to move towards Lamb Road, F.C. Road, and other points, taking a left at NB Hall (Sessions Court) Point.
Parking Regulations:
1. Dedicated Parking for Devotee Vehicles:
Vehicles carrying devotees from Bharalumukh will be allowed to park at Lakhi Goli, Chamber Road, MS Road, SRCB Road, and the market side of MG Road.
2. Sonaram HS School Ghat Parking:
Vehicles at Sonaram HS School Ghat should be parked inside the field to avoid congestion.
No-Parking Zones:
1. Clearance of AT Road and Adjacent Areas:
AT Road from Bharalumukh to Panbazar Over Bridge South will be kept clear of parked vehicles from 7:00 AM on November 7 until the completion of rituals on November 8.
2. Prohibited Areas for Parking:
No parking will be allowed on MLN Road, ARB Road, SS Road, SRCB Road, HB Road, and TRP Road.
3. Ban on Truck and Heavy Commercial Parking:
Parking for trucks and heavy commercial vehicles is restricted on TRP Road, Lakhi Gali, and several other roads near the festival area until the completion of rituals on November 8.
Important Notes for Puja Committees and Devotees:
1. Parking Areas to Be Away from Puja Sites:
Puja committees are urged to ensure parking is set at a safe distance from Puja locations to prevent haphazard parking.
2. Volunteer Assistance:
Puja committees are advised to engage volunteers to help manage crowd control and parking.
3. Systematic Parking for Devotees’ Vehicles:
Devotees arriving by car are requested to park systematically to avoid disruption for other road users.
The Guwahati Traffic Police urge the public to adhere to these regulations and cooperate to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the Chhath Puja celebrations.
