Cachar Police Seize 1000 Packets of Burmese Cigarettes in Major Drug Bust
Silchar: Cachar Police acted swiftly on a tip-off regarding the illegal transportation of materials, leading to a major bust. The incident unfolded when a truck, with registration number AS 01 LC 6671, was intercepted on National Highway 06 near Gamon Bridge. The vehicle, a Punjab body truck, had come from Mizoram and was en route to Meghalaya.
Upon stopping the truck, officers discovered a hidden stash of 1000 packets of illegal Esse Light Burmese cigarettes concealed inside the vehicle’s cabin. The truck was promptly brought to the Katigorah Police Station for a detailed search, confirming the presence of the contraband.
The police arrested two individuals, identified as Khatrajoy Reang, from Ambassa in Dhalai, Tripura, and Bormatien Halam, from Kosusora, Tripura. Both suspects were apprehended on charges of smuggling illegal goods. Lawful action is currently underway against them.
This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of Cachar Police to combat illegal smuggling activities and protect the region from contraband materials. Authorities have promised continued vigilance in tackling similar crimes in the future.
