Massive Drug Bust in Mizoram: CID Seizes Rs. 6.13 Crore Worth of Methamphetamine and Heroin
Desk Report, September 18, 2024: In a major operation, Mizoram Police’s CID (SB) team intercepted three vehicles on the outskirts of Aizawl, leading to the seizure of narcotics valued at Rs. 6.13 crore. Acting on specific intelligence, the operation was conducted on September 16, 2024, around 10:00 PM at Hualngohmun, where two vehicles were stopped.
During a thorough search, police found 32.013 kg of suspected methamphetamine (32 bundles), valued at Rs. 4.14 crore, hidden inside a Renault Kwid (MZ 01 N 3642). The driver, Lalthansiama from Myanmar, was arrested. The same search uncovered 249 grams of suspected heroin worth Rs. 7.47 lakh.
In a separate vehicle, a Datsun Redi Go (MZ 02 A 9053), the police seized 8.021 kg of suspected methamphetamine worth Rs. 1.04 crore, along with 565 grams of suspected heroin valued at Rs. 16.95 lakh. The driver, Zoremmawia, also from Myanmar but temporarily residing in Aizawl, was apprehended.
A third vehicle, a Hyundai i10 Magna (MZ 01 G 5672), sped off from the scene but was later intercepted in Muanna Veng, Zuangtui on September 17, 2024, at 1:00 AM. Inside, police found 2.284 kg of suspected heroin valued at Rs. 68.52 lakh. The driver, David of Zokhawthar, managed to escape, while a juvenile passenger, suspected to be the second driver, was taken into custody.
Overall, the operation resulted in the seizure of 40.034 kg of suspected methamphetamine valued at Rs. 5.20 crore, and 3.098 kg of suspected heroin worth Rs. 92.94 lakh. The two arrested individuals and the juvenile have been handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station. A criminal case has been filed under the ND&PS Act and Foreigners Act for further investigation.
