Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Progress of Jal Jeevan Mission in Assam
Guwahati, September 18, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a high-level meeting with the Jal Jeevan Mission Department to assess the progress of the government’s ambitious scheme aimed at providing tap water to every rural household in Assam. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of steady implementation and affirmed the Assam Government’s commitment to ensuring access to clean drinking water for all residents across the state.
During the review meeting, Dr. Sarma expressed satisfaction with the pace of the mission’s execution, noting that significant strides had been made in expanding the availability of potable water in rural areas. He stressed that the government’s top priority remains the welfare of its people, especially in securing basic amenities such as water supply.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the challenges faced by the mission, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach regions. He urged the concerned officials to intensify their efforts to overcome these hurdles and ensure that no village is left behind in the goal to achieve universal water access.
“Providing tap water to every rural household is a mission we are progressing with steadily, but there is still more work to be done,” Dr. Sarma remarked. He added that the state government’s focus would continue to be on delivering sustainable and long-term solutions to the water scarcity issues faced by various communities.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched under the Central Government, aims to ensure that every household in rural India has access to sufficient and safe drinking water by 2024. Assam has been actively working towards this goal by strengthening its water supply infrastructure and enhancing monitoring mechanisms.
Dr. Sarma concluded the meeting by reiterating his administration’s dedication to transforming Assam’s rural landscape through improved public health infrastructure and access to essential services. The government will maintain regular reviews to track the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and address any emerging concerns.
