Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and PM Narendra Modi Lead International Day of Yoga Celebrations
Desk Report, June 21, 2024: On International Day of Yoga 2024, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a yoga session in Tezpur, accompanied by his cabinet colleagues. In a post on X, Sarma described Yoga Day as “a celebration of Bharat’s unique gift to the world to remain fit and healthy” while sharing highlights from the event. Cabinet ministers Keshab Mahanta and Ashok Singhal joined him at Church Field in Tezpur town.
Chief Minister Sarma’s post emphasized, “Yoga for a Fit India, Yoga for All! Participated in the State celebrations of the 10th International Day of Yoga at Tezpur. #YogaDay is a celebration of Bharat’s unique gift to the world to remain fit and healthy.” The event aimed to promote yoga as a means to enhance fitness and health.
Elsewhere, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in Yoga Day celebrations during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi practiced yoga along Dal Lake with other enthusiasts and interacted with participants. Notably, he wore an Assamese Gamusa, a traditional piece of cloth, which Chief Minister Sarma acknowledged with pride.
