Assam Cabinet Approves Bicycle Scheme for Class 9 Students to Boost School Attendance
Guwahati, September 25, 2024: In a significant step to promote education and reduce dropout rates at the secondary level, the Assam Cabinet has approved a scheme to provide bicycles to Class 9 students in government and provincial schools for the academic year 2024-25. This decision, taken on September 24, aims to encourage regular attendance and ensure that students can commute to and from school with ease and security.
The scheme comes with a financial sanction of ₹148.55 crore, which will benefit 3,23,640 students across the state. The bicycles will be distributed among both boys and girls, with the goal of facilitating easier access to education, especially for those who have to travel long distances to reach their schools.
This initiative is expected to act as a deterrent against school dropouts by addressing transportation challenges faced by students, thereby ensuring their regular attendance. It will also enhance the safety and punctuality of students traveling from their homes to schools and back.
The Assam government’s decision underscores its commitment to improving the quality of education and providing necessary infrastructure to students, ultimately helping them to stay in school and complete their education without hindrances.
