Assam Cabinet Greenlights Major Reforms in Technical Education, Rail Connectivity, and Pay Scale Harmonization
Guwahati, September 25, 2024: In a significant move to improve education, infrastructure, and employment, the Assam Cabinet made several key decisions on September 24, 2024. These initiatives aim to enhance technical education, improve railway connectivity, and address pay scale discrepancies among government employees.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Academic Activities in Government Engineering Colleges:
To maintain seamless academic activities, the Cabinet has approved the re-engagement of 451 part-time faculty members in government engineering colleges and polytechnics across Assam. This decision, made under Rule 3F, aims to fill existing vacancies, ensuring that academic classes and related activities continue without disruption.
Facilitating Railway Line Expansion in Azara-Kamakhya Section:
In an effort to boost railway capacity and generate employment, the Cabinet approved the transfer of 8 bighas of government land to the N.F. Railways. This land transfer will facilitate the construction of a doubling railway line between the Azara and Kamakhya sections, which will increase the railway network’s capacity and create job opportunities for local youth.
Uniform Pay Scale for Government Employees:
Addressing a long-standing issue, the Cabinet has approved a proposal to remove pay scale discrepancies between different grades of government employees, specifically those in the positions of Computor Grade-II, Grade-I, and Head Computor under the Directorate of Land Records & Surveys, Assam (DLR&S). This decision ensures uniformity in pay scales for Computors and Traversers, recognizing their similar work nature and qualifications.
Boosting Technical Education through New Polytechnics:
In a bid to strengthen technical skills among students, three new polytechnics will be established in Hajo, Majuli, and Tingkhong. The Cabinet has revalidated administrative approval with a budget allocation of ₹150 crore for constructing these polytechnics, providing a boost to technical education in the state.
Payment of Salaries to KAAC-Engaged Teachers:
To maintain the continuity of education in Karbi Anglong, the Cabinet approved the payment of salaries for 131 teachers appointed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). This decision underscores the government’s commitment to supporting education in the region and ensuring timely salary disbursements.
These pivotal decisions by the Assam Cabinet reflect a strategic approach to fostering development in education, infrastructure, and public service sectors across the state.
