Union Home Minister Amit Shah Leads Strategic Meeting on Jammu and Kashmir Security and Amarnath Yatra Preparedness
Desk Report, June 16, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting on June 16 at North Block in New Delhi to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following a spate of recent terror incidents. The meeting also focused on preparations for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, set to commence on June 29.
During the session, Amit Shah instructed security agencies to implement the successful strategies of the Area Domination Plan and the Zero-Terror Plan in the Jammu division, mirroring their achievements in the Kashmir Valley. A senior government official highlighted the Narendra Modi administration’s dedication to countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir through innovative approaches.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, and senior Army officers such as Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande and Chief of Army Staff (Designate) General Upendra Dwivedi. Other notable attendees included Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, Director General of CRPF Anish Dayal Singh, DG of BSF Nitin Agarwal, and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police R.R. Swain.
The high-level review underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region, particularly in light of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which attracts thousands of pilgrims annually.
