Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh to Take Charge as Chief of the Air Staff on September 30
Desk Report, September 22, 2024: The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, PVSM, AVSM, as the next Chief of the Air Staff. He will officially take over the role in the rank of Air Chief Marshal on the afternoon of September 30, 2024. This announcement follows the upcoming retirement of the current Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, who will step down on the same day.
Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh brings extensive experience to his new role. Commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984, he has served the nation for nearly 40 years. Throughout his career, he has taken on various command, staff, instructional, and international assignments, reflecting his distinguished service record.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh is a qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot. He has accumulated over 5,000 hours of flying experience on both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. His expertise is further demonstrated by his command of an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base.
Air Marshal Singh also led significant projects, including the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team based in Moscow, Russia. Moreover, he served as Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, where he conducted flight testing for the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas.
His significant appointments include serving as Air Defence Commander at the South Western Air Command and as Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command. Before becoming the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he held the position of Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
This extensive experience equips Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh with the expertise needed to lead the Indian Air Force as the next Chief of the Air Staff.
