Cachar Police Seize Drugs Worth ₹26.7 Crore in Back-to-Back Raids in Silchar
April 29, 2025: In a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, Cachar Police recovered narcotics worth over ₹26.7 crore during two separate raids in Silchar. The operations led to the seizure of heroin and Yaba tablets, underscoring Assam’s determined fight against drugs.
In the latest raid at Meherpur, Silchar, police recovered 386 grams of heroin and 60,000 Yaba tablets. One suspected drug peddler was arrested from the scene. This operation marked one of the largest seizures in the region in recent months.
Earlier, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle near the Silchar Bypass. During the search, they recovered 114 grams of heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case. Both suspects are being interrogated for further leads.
Officials confirmed that the estimated street value of the drugs seized in both operations is over ₹26.7 crore. The Yaba tablets, commonly smuggled in from across the border, remain a major concern for law enforcement.
Assam Police, under the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs, continue to tighten surveillance and increase ground-level intelligence. The recent operations highlight the commitment of Cachar Police in keeping the region safe from the drug menace.
