Stampede Claims 27 Lives at Religious Event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh
Desk Report, July 02, 2024: Tragedy struck Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday as a stampede during a ‘satsang’ claimed the lives of 27 people, including three children. The incident occurred at a religious event in Mughal Garhi village, Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh where chaos ensued, leading to multiple casualties.
Images from the Community Health Centre depicted a somber scene with bodies being transported in buses and tempos, amidst grieving relatives. Speaking on the devastating event, Etah SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh stated, “A religious event was underway when the stampede occurred. So far, 27 bodies, including 23 women, 3 children, and 1 man, have been received at Etah Hospital. The injured are currently being treated, and further investigations are ongoing. The identification process for these victims is underway.”
Chief Medical Officer Umesh Kumar Tripathi of Etah confirmed, “27 bodies have been received at the post-mortem house, comprising 25 women and 2 men. Several injured individuals have also been admitted for treatment. More details will emerge as the investigation progresses. The primary cause cited for the stampede is the overcrowding during the religious event.”
In response to the tragic stampede in Hathras, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has swiftly taken action by forming a dedicated inquiry team. This team includes the Additional Director General of the Agra Zone and the Police Commissioner of Aligarh. Their task is to thoroughly investigate the causes behind the incident.
