Major Assam Cabinet Reshuffle: Keshab Mahanta Takes Charge of Transport, Fisheries, and Excise
Guwahati, June 18, 2024: In a significant reshuffle of the Assam Cabinet, Keshab Mahanta has been assigned the portfolios of Transport, Fisheries, and Excise. These departments were previously managed by Parimal Shuklabaidya, who recently resigned from his ministerial roles following his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Keshab Mahanta’s former role as Health Minister will now be overseen by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. With these new responsibilities, Chief Minister Sarma now holds a substantial number of portfolios, including the Home Department, Personnel Department, Public Works Department, Health & Family Welfare Department, Medical Education & Research Department, Indigenous & Tribal Faith and Culture Department (except Directorates of Library & Museum and Directorate of Archaeology), along with any other department not specifically allocated to other ministers.
This reshuffle marks a strategic realignment within the Assam Cabinet, reflecting the evolving political landscape following the recent elections.
