Guwahati Police Crack Vietnamese Citizen’s Kidnapping, Robbery Case; 3 Arrested
Guwahati, August 25, 2024: A West Guwahati Police District team from Azara Police Station swiftly solved the kidnapping and robbery case of a Vietnamese citizen. The incident occurred near Amingaon last night, where the victim was robbed of ₹5 lakh via an online transfer, along with an Apple Watch and a laptop.
The police arrested three suspects: Riaz Ali, Arif Ahmed, and Iftikar Ahmed, all residents of Koya in Kamrup. Authorities also seized a car, bearing registration number AS 01 AB 5455, which was used in the crime.
This criminal group first befriended the victim on social media, luring him to Assam with promises of local support. Upon the victim’s arrival at LGBI Airport, the gang picked him up in a pre-arranged vehicle. It was during this time that the robbery took place.
The police have now apprehended the suspects, and investigations are ongoing. This incident underscores the importance of vigilance when interacting with unknown contacts online.
