Guwahati Police Crack Down on Cyber Mule Account Network, 15 Detained

Guwahati: In a decisive move against cybercrime, the West Guwahati Police District conducted a raid on November 13, uncovering a large network of mule bank accounts allegedly used by cybercriminals to launder money. The operation, led by a team from the Gorchuk Police Station, took place at Talukdar Hotels & Lodge on Bamunpara Road in Boragaon, Guwahati. Authorities detained 15 individuals connected to the scheme.

During questioning, officials from the Cyber Police Station revealed how this network exploited unsuspecting individuals. The gang reportedly convinced people to open bank accounts under their own names, often in exchange for a payment of ₹20,000. These accounts were later sold to cybercriminals at a much higher price, reportedly netting the gang ₹80,000 per account. The criminals then used these accounts to launder money obtained through fraud.

The police have arrested eight suspects identified as Shah Alam (29), Azizul Hoque (25), Alamin Khan (25), Rubul Hussain Khan (37), Kazi Saddam Hussain (32), Abdul Kalam (31), Azim Uddin Ali (37), and Hasan Ali (36), all of whom are from Barpeta.

In addition to the arrests, the team seized a range of items during the operation. These included 31 mobile phones, 36 ATM cards, 21 cheque books, seven stamps, four cars, one bike, four portable drives, a laptop, and various tools like wrenches, testers, and screwdrivers.

This successful raid highlights the ongoing efforts of the West Guwahati Police District to combat cybercrime and protect the community from online fraud and financial exploitation. Further investigations are ongoing to trace additional members involved in this extensive network.
