Excise Department Official’s Residence Raided, Rs 47 Lakh Seized by Anti-Corruption Directorate
Guwahati: In a shocking anti-corruption raid, officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption seized a staggering Rs 47 lakh in cash from the residence of Partha Hazarika, Superintendent of the Excise Department, Guwahati. The raid, conducted on Wednesday, follows Hazarika’s arrest on October 16, 2024, for accepting a bribe of Rs 24,500 from a complainant in exchange for a bar license.
The anti-corruption team launched the raid at Hazarika’s home in Basistha, Guwahati, after his arrest. What they uncovered was startling—cash amounting to Rs 47,30,500 neatly stashed away in his residence. The large sum was immediately seized by the investigating officers.
The investigation began when a complaint was lodged, accusing Hazarika of demanding a bribe to issue a bar license. Acting swiftly, the anti-corruption unit set a trap, catching Hazarika in the act of accepting the bribe earlier that morning. Following the arrest, a thorough search of his residence was conducted, leading to the discovery of the massive cash haul.
The Rs 47 lakh cash found in Hazarika’s home is seen as a critical piece of evidence, raising serious questions about the extent of his involvement in corrupt activities. The authorities are now probing deeper into his financial dealings and possible connections to other illegal activities.
This case has sparked widespread public attention, with many calling for stronger actions against corrupt officials to clean up the system.
