BJP Gears Up for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Assam: Key Developments Unveiled
Desk Report, March 01, 2024: In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Lok Sabha general elections of 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is intensifying its efforts to secure a commanding victory, leaving no aspect untouched.
To spearhead the election affairs in Assam, a meticulous management committee has been established by the BJP on Friday. At the helm of this crucial committee is Assam BJP president, Bhabesh Kalita. This strategic move follows the recent visit of BJP state president and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to Delhi, where they presented a draft list of potential candidates for the upcoming elections.
While the formal announcement of the candidate list is pending, speculations are already swirling around the political landscape. Adding to the intrigue, BJP MP from Assam in the Rajya Sabha, Pabitra Margherita, assumes the role of the convenor for the management committee. The primary objective of this committee is crystal clear: to ensure BJP’s triumph in Assam during the imminent Lok Sabha polls.
It’s noteworthy that Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita affirmed on Tuesday that the final list of candidates for the 12 Lok Sabha seats in the state would be decided by the party’s top brass. The decision-making process would be based on the recommendations put forth by the special committee.
In a prior move, the BJP had released a roster of convenors and co-convenors to constitute a special committee entrusted with the task of identifying potential candidates for the 12 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. However, a significant development unfolded as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Thursday that the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), an ally of the ruling BJP, would be allotted the Kokrajhar seat. Additionally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), another ally, would contend for the Dhubri and Barpeta seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
During a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati, CM Sarma announced that the saffron party would vie for 11 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Exuding confidence, he expressed optimism about BJP’s triumphant performance in all 11 contested seats. These recent developments unfold against the backdrop of an election season that promises political dynamism and strategic maneuvering.
