Assam’s Mising Tribe Handloom Gains Global Recognition with GI Certification
In a major boost to celebrate cultural heritage, Assam’s Mising tribe handloom products have obtained the GI certificate. The certificate was handed over officially at a ceremony in New Delhi to the “Institute of Handicraft Development.” Different GI certificates of the nation for various industrial and traditional products were distributed in the same event. The certificates also included a number of unique items of Assam, which were registered this year in part.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma extended heartfelt congratulations to the Mising community and the people of Assam. He said this was another milestone in preserving traditional craftsmanship while boosting the state’s cultural and economic landscape.
GI certification protects the authenticity of the handloom products made by the Mising. The recognition helps in safeguarding the identity of such unique craftsmanship, opening new avenues toward more extensive market access and international renown. With this, the value of such products increases along with the quality of the livelihood of the skilled artisans of Assam.
This achievement is a reflection of Assam’s vow toward the development of its traditional industries along with its rich cultural heritage. The GI tag surely places Assam in a competitive position as a hub of authentic high-class craftsmanship in the international arena.
