Assam’s Tea Garden Wage Scheme Empowers 1.38 Lakh Pregnant Women with Financial Aid
In an effort to support maternal care in Assam’s tea gardens, the Assam government has implemented a Wage Compensation Scheme. This initiative provides ₹15,000 to each pregnant woman employed in the tea gardens. The scheme, aimed at enhancing maternal health and financial stability, has successfully reached over 1.38 lakh women, with a total of ₹127.77 crore transferred directly to their bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
By ensuring financial support during pregnancy, the government is focusing on reducing economic stress for tea garden workers and promoting healthier conditions for both mothers and newborns. This initiative is part of Assam’s larger commitment to uplifting the tea garden community through structured welfare schemes.
Through the Wage Compensation Scheme, Assam underscores its dedication to “Nari Samman” (Respect for Women), addressing the unique needs of women in tea gardens and strengthening family welfare.
