Assam Police Intercept Large-Scale Cattle Smuggling at Jorabat, Arrest 8

Guwahati: In a significant crackdown, the East Guwahati Police District team from Jorabat Out Post, under Basistha Police Station, intercepted two major cattle-smuggling operations at Jorabat Link Road. Acting on intelligence, the team first halted an Innova, registered as AS 06 M 0317, loaded with seven cattle. Two individuals from Samaguri, Nagaon — Mohammad Ullah, 24, and Rasidul Haque, 25 — were arrested on the spot.

In a second operation early the same morning, officers intercepted a truck with registration AS 01 QC 6402. This truck was attempting to smuggle 13 live cattle, escorted from Barpeta towards Byrnihat. Alongside the truck, a car registered as AS 01 BG 9260 was also stopped. Four suspects — Rabbel Amin, 20, of Barpeta, Saddam Ali, 23, of Tarabari, Ibrahim Ali, 20, and Ashraful Ali, both from Sarthebari — were apprehended.

Further investigation revealed that two individuals from Meghalaya, Sunny Marak, 38, and Jyotish Kro, were waiting near the Jorabat flyover to guide the truck through its next stage. The team seized their car, a white sedan with registration ML 10 C 0062, and arrested both suspects.

This double operation has dealt a blow to cattle smuggling networks operating between Assam and Meghalaya.
