Mahua Das, Dhubri, January 18, 2024 – In a bold move, EM Ranjit Basumatary orchestrated a surprise raid to combat illegal red soil mining activities in the Paschim Rangamati area of Bodoland Territorial Region, falling within the jurisdiction of the Divisional Forest Officer, Parbatjhora Forest Division.
During the operation, EM Ranjit Basumatary successfully seized eight dumpers and four excavators that were illicitly engaged in mining operations. Taking swift action, Basumatary handed over the seized machinery to the officials of the Parbatjhora Forest Division. The seized dumpers and excavators are currently being securely stored at the Parbatjhora Forest Division Office.
The Paschim Rangamati area, which was once home to a surrendered ULFA camp, has become a hotspot for unauthorized mining activities. EM Ranjit Basumatary’s surprise raid aimed to crack down on these illegal operations and safeguard the ecological balance of the region.
Persistent illegal mining, carried out day and night in close proximity to the Forest Division Office, prompted EM Ranjit Basumatary’s decisive intervention. This unexpected crackdown serves as a stern warning to those involved in illegal mining, emphasizing the importance of adhering to environmental regulations for the preservation of the region’s natural resources.
