STF Assam Arrests UKNA Cadre for Involvement in Sabotage Operations
Guwahati, September 15, 2024: In a significant operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam arrested LS Yosef Chongloi, a self-styled finance secretary of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA). The arrest occurred on 13th September 2024 in Beltola, Guwahati. Chongloi has been under investigation for his involvement in multiple acts of sabotage, including the Sapermeina bridge blast and an attack on an IOC convoy in Manipur.
Chongloi, who holds a prominent position within UKNA, is a prime suspect in the blast that damaged the Sapermeina bridge on National Highway 2. This incident severely disrupted traffic and raised security concerns in the region. Additionally, he is linked to the attack on an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) convoy, an assault that had escalated tensions in Manipur. Both incidents point to a larger pattern of sabotage targeting critical infrastructure.
The STF, acting on intelligence inputs, tracked Chongloi’s movements and apprehended him in Beltola. His arrest marks a crucial development in the investigation of these sabotage cases. Authorities are currently interrogating him to uncover more details about his role in these attacks and potential links to other extremist activities.
The United Kuki National Army, a militant group, has been involved in several violent activities across the region. Chongloi’s capture is seen as a step towards dismantling the group’s operational network.
The STF remains committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region, continuing its efforts to crack down on insurgent groups involved in sabotage and violence.
