STF Assam Seizes Heroin in Twin Operations, 6 Arrested

Guwahati, September 11, 2024: In a significant victory against drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam conducted two successful anti-narcotics operations based on intelligence inputs, leading to the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin.

In the first operation, a team of STF officers acted on specific information and raided a location at Datalpara under Fatashil Police Station in Guwahati. During the operation, three individuals were apprehended with 153 vials containing heroin weighing 204.5 grams. The police also seized a four-wheeler, four mobile phones, and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be connected to drug-related activities.

In a second, simultaneous operation, the STF, Assam launched a raid at Rani and Mojuli under the jurisdiction of Palashbari and Azara Police Stations. Acting on a tip-off, the team apprehended another three suspects who were found in possession of 20 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 280 grams. Several vials, a four-wheeler, and other items were also recovered during this operation.

Both operations underscore the STF’s ongoing efforts to combat the rising threat of drug trafficking in Assam. The total quantity of heroin seized amounts to 484.5 grams, marking a significant blow to drug networks operating in the region.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the arrested individuals are expected to face legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

These operations reflect Assam’s relentless drive to curb illegal narcotics and send a strong message to traffickers across the state.
