Senior Administrative Assistant Caught Red-Handed in Bribery Scandal by Vigilance Team in Silchar
Desk Report, June 12, 2024: In a significant operation by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Saumyabrata Bhattacharjee, Senior Administrative Assistant at the Office of the District Commissioner, Cachar, was apprehended red-handed while accepting a bribe. The incident took place today within the office premises.
Bhattacharjee was caught receiving an illicit sum from a complainant concerning a land-related matter. The vigilant team, acting on a prior complaint, executed the sting operation, leading to Bhattacharjee’s immediate arrest.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has been intensifying efforts to combat corruption within governmental offices. This arrest marks a significant victory in their ongoing campaign to ensure transparency and accountability in public service.
Further investigations are underway, and Bhattacharjee is expected to face charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
