Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Inaugural Roadshow in Kolkata Marks Key Political Event
Desk Report, May 29, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural roadshow in Kolkata, West Bengal, on Tuesday emerged as a pivotal political event in the region. Preceding the roadshow, the Prime Minister paid homage at the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose, a revered figure in Indian history. Accompanied by prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including LoP Shuvendu Adhikari and state BJP chief Sukanta Mazumdar, Prime Minister Modi led a 2.5-kilometer procession from Shyam Bazar to Shimla Street.
The roadshow garnered significant support, with enthusiastic supporters lining the route. Anticipation had drawn spectators hours before the event, occupying both sides of the thoroughfare. Following the roadshow’s conclusion, Prime Minister Modi honored Swami Vivekananda with floral tributes, emphasizing the visit’s symbolic importance.
In preparation for the event, Kolkata Police issued a traffic advisory to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions. Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal delineated the traffic regulations, underscoring the importance of orderly vehicular movement during the Prime Minister’s visit.
In a parallel demonstration of political engagement, Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, conducted her own roadshow in Kolkata, reflecting the heightened electoral fervor gripping the state. Notably, Kolkata’s Uttar (North) and Dakshin (South) constituencies, along with seven others, are set for polling in the final phase on June 1, with results due for declaration on June 4.
The concurrent roadshows of both major political figures underscore the intensifying electoral dynamics as West Bengal approaches the climax of its electoral process.
