This state-of-the-art facility, constructed under the North Lakhimpur Municipal Corporation, represents a major leap forward in the city’s efforts to become clean and garbage-free.
The plant, built at a substantial cost of ₹5.75 crore, is designed to facilitate the scientific disposal of waste, ensuring that the process is both efficient and environmentally friendly. The MRF will play a crucial role in segregating recyclable materials, while the compost plant will convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, thereby reducing the burden on landfills and contributing to the circular economy.
During the inauguration ceremony, CM Sarma emphasized the importance of such facilities in maintaining urban cleanliness and managing waste effectively. He lauded the efforts of the Municipal Corporation in spearheading this project and highlighted its potential to serve as a model for other cities in Assam.
The inauguration of the MRF and Waste to Compost Plant marks a significant milestone in North Lakhimpur’s journey towards sustainable urban development. The facility is expected to handle a large volume of waste generated in the city, thus playing a key role in transforming North Lakhimpur into a model city for waste management in the region.
