Nicki Minaj Arrested at Amsterdam Airport for Alleged Drug Possession, Incident Livestreamed
Desk Report, May 26, 2024: On Saturday, rapper and singer Nicki Minaj was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam following allegations of drug possession. The incident, which quickly went viral, was live-streamed on Minaj’s Instagram account, showing Dutch police officers surrounding the artist and requesting that she sit in their vehicle.
Robert van Kapel, a spokesman for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, confirmed that a 41-year-old American woman was arrested at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs. Van Kapel emphasized that it is illegal to transport such substances out of the Netherlands. While the police did not officially identify the suspect, multiple reports indicate that it is indeed Nicki Minaj, who remains in custody pending further investigation.
Reports suggest that marijuana was discovered in one of Minaj’s bags upon her arrival in Amsterdam. The rapper, however, claims that the pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes found in her bag belonged to her security team.
In the live-streamed video on Instagram, Minaj is seen questioning the officers, asking, “Oh, so I’m under arrest?” to which an officer responds, “Yes ma’am, you have to go inside.” Minaj insists on having her lawyer present before agreeing to go to the police precinct.
Minaj continued to update her fans on X (formerly known as Twitter), suggesting that the incident was an attempt to sabotage her ongoing tour. She expressed her frustration, stating, “They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when people are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”
During her Instagram Live stream, Minaj also mentioned that she was asked to board a police van and go to the precinct without legal representation. She reiterated on X, “They’ve been trying everything they possibly can to TRY to stop this tour. They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc.”
The unfolding situation has left Minaj’s fans anxious and uncertain. Many have rallied behind the hashtag #FREENICKI on social media to express their support and concern for the rapper’s well-being.
As the investigation continues, fans and followers of the ‘Super Freaky Girl’ artist eagerly await further updates on her status and the potential impact of this incident on her scheduled performances.
