Leadership Transition in Assam’s Environmental Stewardship: Rajpal Singh Appointed as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
Desk Report, February 29, 2024: In a significant development for Assam’s environmental governance, the Environment and Forest Department welcomes a new leader. Following the retirement of Mahendra Kumar Yadav, IFS (RR:1989), Rajpal Singh, IFS (RR:1991), the Principal Chief Conservator Forests (Social Forestry) of Assam, has been appointed as the new Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF (Head of Forest Force) in Charge.
The transition is set to take effect on 29th February 2024. Rajpal Singh’s assumption of this crucial role reflects a commitment to public service and the continued preservation of Assam’s rich natural heritage.
However, acknowledging the valuable contributions of M.K. Yadava, IFS, the outgoing Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, the Governor of Assam has approved his re-engagement. M.K. Yadava is appointed as the Special Chief Secretary (Forest) for a term of one year starting from 1st March 2024, post his superannuation on 29th February 2024.
This strategic move ensures a seamless transition in leadership, safeguarding the state’s environmental initiatives and emphasizing the importance of experience and expertise in forest management. The upcoming tenure promises a continued focus on sustainable forestry practices, aligning with the state’s commitment to environmental conservation.
