Mizoram Police Seize 8.058 Kg Heroin in Largest Single Drug Haul, Arrest Three
In a significant breakthrough, Mizoram Police’s CID Special Branch intercepted two vehicles and seized 8.058 kilograms of suspected heroin in Aizawl. The operation took place in the early hours of November 26, 2024, at Cheuva Hills, Thuampui. Authorities estimate the contraband’s local market value at ₹2.41 crore.
The drugs were concealed in 664 soap cases of orange powder and hidden within cartons of V-cigarettes and Win-cigarettes. This operation marks the largest single heroin seizure in Mizoram to date.
Three individuals, identified as Lalrohnuna Fanai of Tlangsam, Champhai; Tlanghmingthangi of Tlangsam Vengthlang, Champhai; and Lalmuanzuala of Tlangsam, Champhai, were arrested in connection with the bust. They were traveling in two vehicles—a Bolero with registration number MZ 04 A 9872 and a pickup truck bearing registration number MZ 06 6021.
The Bolero originated from Tlangsam, Champhai, passing through Kelkang, Biate, and Keitum, while the pickup was stationed in Aizawl, awaiting its arrival. Both vehicles, along with four mobile phones, were confiscated by the police.
The case has been registered at the Special Narcotic Police Station in Mizoram. Investigators are delving deeper into the network behind this massive drug smuggling operation.
