Massive Mizoram Police Crackdown: Over 4773 Liters of Illicit Liquor Seized and 5.513 kgs of Heroin Confiscated
Desk Report, April 11, 2024: Since the announcement of the Mizoram MP election in 2024, the Mizoram Police have intensified their efforts to combat the circulation of illicit liquor and drugs across the state. The substantial seizures made during this period shed light on the alarming demand for such substances within Mizoram.
As part of a comprehensive state-wide initiative to curb the use of liquor and drugs, Mizoram Police have confiscated significant quantities of various substances. These seizures include over 4773 liters of Local Made Liquor (LML) valued at Rs. 23,28,000/-, 2577 liters of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs. 41,23,200/-, and 66 liters of BEDC worth Rs. 49,500/-, among others. Additionally, approximately 13,340 liters of fermented rice, valued at Rs. 46,69,000/-, were destroyed during this period.
Moreover, the Mizoram Police have been successful in apprehending individuals involved in the illicit drug trade. During the same timeframe, seizures of 5.513 kgs. of Heroin, 26.469 kgs. of Methamphetamine, and 23.085 kgs. of Ganja were recorded. These seizures, with a total value of millions, highlight the magnitude of the challenge faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking.

Kolasib District:
The Kolasib Police conducted random vehicle checks resulting in the seizure of a considerable amount of IMFL, further highlighting their commitment to enforcing liquor laws.
Mamit District:
Mamit Police intercepted illicit liquor transportation, leading to the seizure of large quantities of LML and the subsequent arrest of individuals involved in the trade.
Serchhip District:
Serchhip Police have been proactive in tackling drug-related crimes, with seizures of Heroin and Ganja recorded during the reporting period.
Champhai District:
Champhai Police conducted successful joint operations resulting in the seizure of substantial quantities of Heroin and Ganja, emphasizing their relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Khawzawl District:
In Khawzawl, the police cracked down on illegal liquor manufacturing units, leading to the seizure of fermented rice and related equipment.
Hnahthial District:
Hnahthial Police seized significant quantities of LML and arrested several individuals involved in its production and distribution.
Siaha District:
The Siaha Police intercepted multiple instances of LML transportation, resulting in arrests and seizures.
Lawngtlai District:
Lawngtlai Police seized a notable quantity of Ganja and LML, demonstrating their commitment to tackling drug-related offenses.
Saitual District:
Saitual Police conducted operations resulting in the destruction of illicit liquor manufacturing units and significant drug seizures, underscoring their proactive approach to law enforcement.
