Manipur’s Kuki-Zo Community Declares Election Boycott Amidst Unaddressed Grievances
Desk Report, March 26, 2024: The Young Kuki group, which represents young Kuki people in Outer Manipur, has decided not to take part in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. At the same time, the Kuki Moms group also wants to skip voting this time.
These choices come after talks by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) Presidential Council. They talked with different tribal groups and all agreed. They decided that no one from the Kuki-Zo community should run in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
The group made this choice because they’re facing big problems. These problems have been around for a while, especially since the violent events on May 3rd, 2023.

The Young Kuki group pointed out some main issues. They mentioned violence, being treated badly by the government, and how the government isn’t helping displaced people and Kuki women who faced crimes. They want the government to take action and fix these problems.
Even though they won’t try for the Outer Manipur Member of Parliament seat, they still want people to vote. The Young Kuki group believes in talking and working things out. They want the Indian Government to talk with them and fix their problems.
