Major Heroin Seizure in Cachar: 10.333 kg Seized from Vehicle, Three Arrested
Silchar, May 19, 2024: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Cachar district intercepted and seized a substantial quantity of heroin originating from Mizoram. The contraband, discovered within a secret compartment of a four-wheeler, was concealed in 60 soap boxes and nine large packets, totaling 10.333 kilograms.
The operation took place during the night at Ghungoor’s Athal Basti Bypass. Authorities recovered 1.547 kilograms of heroin from the soap boxes, while the remaining 8.786 kilograms were found in the larger packets. The estimated street value of the seized heroin is approximately Rs 105 crore.
Three individuals from Mizoram have been apprehended in connection with the trafficking operation. The arrests were made on charges of heroin smuggling, underscoring the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the drug trade in the region.
This significant bust highlights the persistent challenges and the extensive networks involved in narcotics trafficking across state borders. The authorities continue to investigate the broader implications and potential links to larger drug syndicates.
