Guwahati: In a key reshuffle, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the deputation of Gyanendra Pratap Singh, IPS (Assam-Meghalaya cadre, 1991 batch). Singh, currently serving as Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), has been appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The Ministry’s letter, dated January 19, 2025, confirmed Singh’s appointment at the DG level in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix. He will serve in this position on deputation until his superannuation on November 30, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
GP Singh’s release from his current role will take effect as soon as he hands over his responsibilities in Assam. Subsequently, he will assume his new role under standard terms of central deputation.
In the interim, Harmeet Singh, IPS (Assam-Meghalaya cadre, 1992 batch), has been assigned to oversee the duties of the DGP, Assam. Harmeet Singh currently serves as the Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam. He also holds additional responsibilities as Special DGP (Headquarters), Special DGP-cum-Director of Fire & Emergency Services, and Special DGP (Border).
Harmeet Singh’s temporary role as Acting DGP will remain effective until a permanent appointment is made or further orders are issued. The Assam Police Department is expected to continue operations seamlessly under Singh’s interim leadership.
This development marks a significant transition for Assam’s police administration while recognizing the commendable service of GP Singh at the state level.
