Trio Caught in West Guwahati for Diverting Palm Oil Truck Worth ₹11.75 Lakh
Guwahati, September 01, 2024: A West Guwahati Police team from Azara Police Station arrested three thieves involved in a significant palm oil heist. The accused, identified as Md Shahjamal Seikh (25), Md Shariful Islam (19), both from Dhubri, and Md Sofiur Islam (35) of Bijni, were caught after stealing a truck carrying 1,350 cartons of palm oil. The stolen goods, valued at ₹11.75 lakh, were taken from the Azara Rail yard.
The truck, bearing registration number AS 01 NC 2314, was originally headed for Dhubri. However, the thieves diverted the vehicle towards the Alipurduar area. Their plan was thwarted by the prompt action of the police, who managed to track and intercept the truck before it reached its intended destination.
The investigation into the theft is ongoing. Police are now probing further to uncover if more individuals are involved and to ensure such incidents do not recur.
