Government Official Caught Red-Handed: Bribery Scandal Uncovered at Block Development Officer’s Office
Desk Report, April 19, 2024: Today, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended Mantu Kalita, a Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS), after catching him red-handed accepting a bribe. The incident occurred at the Block Development Officer’s office in Kalaigaon, Udalguri district. Kalita was allegedly demanding a bribe from a complainant to expedite the allotment of a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted a sting operation resulting in the apprehension of Kalita. He was found accepting the bribe within the premises of the Block Development Officer’s office in Kalaigaon, Udalguri District. The illicit transaction was reportedly aimed at facilitating the complainant’s access to housing benefits under the PMAY scheme.
Kalita’s actions, allegedly soliciting bribes for official favors, have raised concerns about corruption within government offices. The incident highlights the importance of stringent measures to combat corruption and uphold transparency in public service institutions.
