Assam Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Nabs Forest Range Officer in Bribery Case
Guwahati, June 15, 2024: In a significant move by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Forest Range Officer Eqbal Ahmed was apprehended in his office while accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000. The operation, executed with precision, aimed at curbing corrupt practices within the department, resulting in Ahmed’s immediate detention.
The bribe was allegedly demanded by Ahmed for the issuance of a license, highlighting the ongoing issues of corruption within governmental processes. The swift action by the vigilance team underscores the commitment of the authorities to enforce accountability and integrity in public services.
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took to his official ‘X’ handle to share the news of the operation. In his post, he lauded the efforts of the vigilance team, stating, “Justice in action.” His remarks reflect the administration’s stance on maintaining transparency and zero tolerance towards corruption.
