Wild Elephant Rampage Claims Life in Lakhimpur District; Forest Department Response Questioned
Lakhimpur, March 16, 2024: In a tragic incident in Gorubandha No. 2 of Lakhimpur district, a wild elephant from the Hills of Arunachal Pradesh, on a quest for sustenance, fatally attacked a local resident. The victim, identified as Dimbeswar Phukan, succumbed to the elephant’s aggression near Bipin Phukan’s house.
Initially breaching Bipin Phukan’s residence, the marauding elephant proceeded to wreak havoc, resulting in the tragic demise of Dimbeswar Phukan, who resided nearby.

Amidst the chaos, concerned locals reached out to the forest department for assistance during the night. However, allegations surfaced, casting doubt on the department’s responsiveness, with claims that no officials or employees received the distress calls.
Subsequently, it was revealed that the forest department personnel arrived at the scene only in the early hours of the following morning. Meanwhile, Dimbeswar Phukan’s body has been transported to Lakhimpur for a comprehensive autopsy, seeking closure for the grieving community and accountability in the aftermath of the tragic incident.
