Assam Stock Trading Scam: Absconding Sumi Borah Announces Surrender, Refutes Allegations
Guwahati, September 11, 2024: In a significant update, Sumi Borah, one of the absconding suspects in the Assam stock trading scam, has announced her decision to surrender. The couple, Sumi and her husband Tarkik Borah, have been under police scrutiny for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent stock market trading operation. Sumi made this announcement via her social media account on Wednesday, stating her willingness to cooperate with authorities.
Borah strongly denied the allegations, calling media reports “baseless and fake.” She emphasized that less than 10% of the circulated information is true. Expressing her distress, she stated that the media had mentally harassed her with unverified accusations. “Even before the court proves me guilty, the media has destroyed my life with accusations,” she added.
Sumi further explained that the case, originally linked to online trading scams, had taken an unexpected turn and focused on her. She clarified that she did not escape but was hiding due to the overwhelming accusations. “Now, after gaining confidence, I’ve decided to surrender and fully cooperate with Assam Police,” Borah mentioned. She expressed her faith in the legal process, hoping that her innocence would be proven.
Meanwhile, earlier on Wednesday, Assam Police arrested Tarkik Borah’s brother, Amlan Borah, in Bihar, in connection with the scam. Additionally, a vehicle registered under Tarkik Borah’s name, a Fortuner Sigma 4 with the registration number AS 01 FL 8009, was seized in Meghalaya.
