Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illicit Activities; Arrests 93 Individuals Including ISIS Members
Desk Report, April 01, 2024: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police has escalated its crackdown on illicit activities in the state, with a particular focus on drug peddling and other illegal enterprises. Since the beginning of 2023, the STF has registered a total of 36 cases, leading to the arrest of 93 individuals involved in a range of unlawful activities.
Among those apprehended, two individuals have been identified as members of the terrorist organization ISIS, with one being a supporting associate. The remaining 90 individuals are implicated in drug trafficking and the distribution of Fake Indian Currency Notes.
In addition to its own operations, the STF has been actively collaborating with other law enforcement agencies. A total of 85 cases against drug peddlers have been registered at various police stations under the STF’s jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of 206 accused individuals. One case has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation.
Despite facing numerous challenges, the STF has made significant strides in addressing the issue, having already filed chargesheets in three cases. However, it is noteworthy that only one case has been disposed of so far, underscoring the complexities involved in prosecuting such crimes.
The relentless efforts of the STF underscore the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies in Assam to combat illegal activities and safeguard the safety and security of its citizens.
The Assam Police continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities or information that could assist in their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
