Assam Police Apprehend 14 Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals; Nine Found with Indian Aadhaar Cards

Guwahati: Assam Police apprehended 14 illegal Bangladeshi nationals in the South Salmara and Karimganj districts, following intelligence input. Notably, nine of the apprehended individuals were found carrying Indian Aadhaar cards, raising serious concerns about border security and document misuse.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Ariful Islam, Md. Monir Hussain, Mofazal Hussain, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Abyadullah Hassan, Ashraful Islam, Manik Miah, Nobi Hussain, Waliul Ullah, Hazarat Ali, Sofikul Islam, Iland Furkan Ali, Mominul Haque, and Md. Anwar Hussain.

The arrests come as part of a larger operation by Assam Police to monitor illegal border crossings. Ever since tensions escalated in Bangladesh, the police have increased surveillance, leading to the apprehension of 108 illegal infiltrators in recent weeks. Authorities have maintained a strict watch along the border, focusing on preventing further unauthorized entry.

The discovery of Indian Aadhaar cards with the infiltrators has heightened concerns about the potential forgery and misuse of Indian identity documents. Assam Police continue their investigation to trace the source of these cards and any possible involvement of local facilitators in aiding illegal entry.

The operation underlines the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tackling cross-border infiltration, particularly when foreign nationals are found in possession of Indian identification documents. Efforts to strengthen border security are ongoing, with increased cooperation between the central government and local authorities.
