Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Advocates Modern Education and Nationalist Agenda in Election Rallies
Desk Report, May 19, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered a resolute address during back-to-back election rallies in Muzaffarpur, Siwan, and Buxar Lok Sabha seats, emphasizing the vision of a “new India” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sarma’s remarks centered on the imperative of fostering modern educational institutions over traditional madrassas, echoing the government’s commitment to cultivating a workforce skilled in fields such as medicine and engineering.
Highlighting the agenda for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Sarma underscored plans to construct grand temples in Varanasi and Mathura, alongside the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) upon securing over 400 Lok Sabha seats. Asserting the integration of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) into India as a priority, Sarma outlined a comprehensive agenda encompassing social, religious, and territorial initiatives.
In a scathing critique of opposition parties, particularly the Congress and its allies, Sarma accused them of obstructing national development and promoting divisive policies, notably targeting the interests of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He condemned purported attempts to introduce religion-based reservations, asserting that such measures were better suited for Pakistan rather than India. Sarma’s rhetoric positioned the NDA as a bulwark against what he described as the politics of appeasement championed by the opposition.
Taking aim at individual opposition figures, Sarma dismissed the prospects of Rahul Gandhi ascending to the position of Prime Minister, suggesting that his political aspirations might find a more suitable platform across the border. He attributed the NDA’s electoral adversaries to the broader nexus of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging collusion in supporting independent candidates against BJP nominees.
Sarma’s addresses, delivered ahead of imminent Lok Sabha elections in Muzaffarpur, Siwan, and Buxar, encapsulated a blend of ideological conviction and political strategy, reflecting the high stakes and competitive dynamics characterizing contemporary Indian politics.
