Assam CM Sarma Chairs BAI Meeting, Highlights India’s Badminton Achievements
Guwahati, July 21, 2024: In a significant development for Indian badminton, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the Executive Meeting and Annual General Meeting of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for 2024. The event, held today, focused on several critical issues aimed at promoting badminton nationwide.
Chief Minister Sarma addressed the need for enhanced infrastructure and improved coaching provisions to support emerging badminton talent. He expressed appreciation for the suggestions offered by BAI members to create a more robust badminton environment in the country. Commending BAI’s efforts, Sarma highlighted the association’s success in maintaining high-quality training at academies staffed with international coaches, physiotherapists, and strength and conditioning experts.
The Chief Minister also underscored the remarkable achievements of Indian badminton players in the past international season. He noted that Indian athletes secured an impressive 233 medals across senior and junior categories, significantly boosting the sport’s global credibility. A particular highlight was India’s historic first bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship held in Dubai.
Sarma’s address emphasized the importance of continued support and development in Indian badminton, aiming to build on the recent successes and further elevate the sport on the global stage.
