Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Inspects Flood Prevention Measures in Lakhimpur District
Guwahati, July 04, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the Matmara Baligaon area of Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district today. The Water Resources Department has deployed geo bags and porcupines to combat flood and erosion in the region.
A comprehensive plan, worth around Rs 94 crore, has been prepared by the Water Resources Department. This plan covers a stretch from Sisi Kalghar to Tekeliphuta, aiming to address the erosion of the Brahmaputra River and implement permanent prevention measures. The scheme will cover approximately 21 kilometers.
During his visit, Chief Minister Sarma engaged with local residents to discuss their concerns and insights. He was accompanied by Ministers Dr. Ronoj Pegu, Pijush Hazarika, and Jayanta Malla Baruah, as well as MP Pradhan Baruah and MLA Naba Kumar Doley.
These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to mitigating the impacts of flooding and erosion, ensuring the safety and well-being of the local population.
