Assam Extends Apon Ghar Housing Loan Benefits to Existing Beneficiaries

Big Relief for Assam Govt Employees: Apon Ghar Loan Benefits Expanded

Guwahati; February 01, 2025: The Assam Cabinet has approved a significant extension of the Apon Ghar housing loan scheme, bringing relief to thousands of existing beneficiaries. The decision extends the enhanced loan threshold limit of Rs 30 lakh, along with a 1% interest subvention, to the 37,277 individuals who are already part of the scheme. This move aims to further support homeownership and affordable housing in the state.

The Apon Ghar scheme, a flagship initiative of the Assam government, was launched to facilitate affordable housing for state government employees. Previously, the scheme offered lower loan amounts. The recent enhancement, which increased the loan limit to Rs 30 lakh, was initially applicable to new applicants. Today’s cabinet decision extends this benefit retroactively to those already availing of the scheme, ensuring they too can access larger loans for home construction or purchase. The 1% interest subvention will further ease the financial burden on these beneficiaries.

This decision is expected to have a positive impact on the housing sector in Assam. By enabling access to larger loans at subsidized interest rates, the government aims to stimulate construction activity and encourage homeownership. The move is also seen as a boost to the morale of state government employees who can now upgrade or acquire homes with greater financial ease.

The government is yet to release the detailed guidelines for how existing beneficiaries can access the enhanced loan amount. It is anticipated that a streamlined process will be put in place to minimize any inconvenience. Further announcements regarding the implementation of this decision are expected in the coming days.
